The Old Drood House (Day Three) - Cakewalk - Or, maybe not...

SPOILERS BELOW - SPOILERS BELOW

Saturday, September 11
But first… A little something forgotten in the flurry of events (and, yes, the Investigators are moving very fast…) – A visit was made to the home of relatives in Oakland who have taken in the Macario boys.
·         The boys have been psychologically shaken by whatever happened to them.
·         They speak of a black figure that came in dreams with eyes like fire.
·         It said “What’s yours is mine”…
·         The children’s crayon drawings are mighty disturbing.

And then the Investigators entered the old Drood house…
A quick look about reveals lots of scattered Catholic artifacts and other signs of the hasty departure of the Macario family.
There were a few scary incidents. Noises. Things falling over… A gramophone that started up on its own and told them to “Get Out!” Nothing that the brave Investigators couldn’t handle.
That funny tingling turned out to be strongest in the master bedroom and again upstairs, above it in what appears to have been used as a child’s bedroom. A wall panel is broken out and a large wood inlaid version of the symbol found at the Chapel of Contemplation is revealed – and rendered inert with a few strokes of the pry-bar.
The Investigators discover a hidden area at the back of the attic due to the vents noticeable from the outside with only a blank wall inside… And didn’t that 19th century drawing of the house have a balcony of some sort back there? A bit more damage is done to the property…
Within are discovered the various ducts and chimneys that have been channeled through the space, presumably when the house was modernized after 1901… And… An assortment of trash in corners and between beams.
·       * A bent old tripod, such as might have been used for a telescope.
·        * Part of a Nautical Almanac and Astronomical Ephemeris from 1855
·       *   A ragged fragment of old paper that appears to be a broadsheet from November 7th, 1853.

Conclusions are drawn…
The basement is searched and a hidden passage is uncovered – leading to a small room under the foundation of the carriage house (which is no longer standing). Within are a scribed circle of about six feet dimeter in the tiled floor and little else… There is a wooden pallet at the far end with fragments of brick on it – The largest fragment is clearly imprinted with part of that same symbol… A few rats appear and attack… but are easily dealt with.
As a  near afterthought the Investigators find and destroy a stone disc concealed in the flooring near the entrance to the secret room.

All’s well. No more tingling in the house. Cakewalk.
That night Sara has a bad dream… Someone seems to have broken into Dr. Marsh’s house and slightly rearranged some of his possessions…

And, later in the night - An eight foot humanoid horror with claws the size of carving knives turns up in Dr. Marsh’s study and comes through the bedroom door, reducing it to matchsticks, apparently bent on mayhem. The doc and his wife escape through the window.
Later examination of the study reveals scraps of adhesive tape hanging from the bottom of the doctor’s desk… And while the doc was fetching the police, someone seems to have broken in again – jimmying the back door.
